History and Future of Dark Matter

In this symposium, sponsored by the GRAPPA Institute and the Delta Institute of Theoretical Physics, six world-leading scientists who pioneered the discovery of dark matter and its detection strategies will discuss the history and future of dark matter studies. The event will consist of two series of 3 presentations, each followed by a round table discussion with experts in Cosmology and in the History of Science.

An extraordinary discovery has recently shaken the foundations of cosmology and particle physics: the Universe is filled with an unknown, elusive substance that is fundamentally different from anything we have ever seen with our telescopes or measured in our laboratories. It is called dark matter, and identifying its nature constitutes one of the most pressing challenges of modern science. 

 

A Public Event

The symposium is open to scientific communities and the public alike. It will take place in the 17th century Koepelkerk in downtown Amsterdam and attendance is by registration only. Tickets cost €15,00 (see registration link below).

Venue and Location:

The symposium will take place in the 17th century Koepelkerk, in downtown Amsterdam.

 

Schipol Airport to Koepelkerk:

From Schipol Airport, take a train to Amsterdam Central Station.  Trains leave approximately every 15 minutes and the journey lasts 15-20 minutes.  From the Amsterdam Central Station, it is a 10 minute walk or an 8 minute tram journey to the Koepelkerk. 

 

By tram:

Trams 1, 2, 4, 5, 13 and 17 depart from Amsterdam Central Station and will all take you to within 2 minutes walking distance of the Koepelkerk.  Simply descend at Amsterdam Nieuwezijds Kolk, cross to the opposite side of the street and follow the small alley directly  opposite the tram stop, Korte Lijnbaanssteeg, onto Spuistraat.  Cross to the other side of the street and turn right, following the road back towards Central Station.  The Koepelkerk is located on the first main turning to the left, opposite the Renaissance Hotel.

Registration

Attendance of the symposium is by registration only.  Tickets cost €15 and are only sold online.  It will not be possible to purchase tickets on the door.
